You love decorating your space with coastal-inspired elements and also the modern streamlined look. How about combining both styles together? This style is known as Modern Coastal. Here are the few things to consider to introduce while creating a sanctuary.

Colour plays an important role in achieving this look. Incorporating the soft muted neutrals that glide from warm to cool. It's scientifically proven that blue and green affect our moods and emotions evoking a sense of calmness and serenity.

A beachy bedroom doesn’t mean to fill in the room with beach motifs! Think about what do love about the beach? What mood you would like to create? To make your bedroom a haven that you look forward to returning t every evening, furnish it exclusively with textures and colours that calm you. Choose from varieties of neutral elements such as wood, bamboo, seagrass and rattan in a beach-inspired look. While choosing a bed and nightstands does not have to be all matchy. Change it up for a more custom look. Think about storage and functionally has enough storage and works with the proportion of the bed.

Choose artwork from landscapes to abstract paintings if you like! When picking the colour palette choose a neutral colour as a base colour and choose two or three accent colours throughout the room. To achieve a cohesive look, think of accessories that mimic all the textures and colours throughout the space. And finally, to anchor the space does not forget to introduce a beautifully textured rug that is perfect for your feet as you wake up and recharge for your day!

WORKING FROM HOME -BLOG-Cover Page.png

Hey Hey! Are you working from home? Now you must be thinking what sort of question is that? Believe me, my intention is not to create more chaos in your mind during these uncertain times. I would like to bring your attention to this matter, and think about how long we will potentially be working from home.

I had to close my office so I can work from home and homeschool my kids as well. I live in a modest size house in Brantford, Ontario and also have a home office which by the way, I share with my husband. You can imagine with both of our office stuff all over the room, it is really hard to organize and have the space camera ready for your virtual clients and colleagues.

If you do have an office space in your home currently or doubling your space with having a desk in your bedroom, living area or kitchen, I have a perfect solution for you. I thought about this as I also have to be with my little kids when they are home and not playing or studying in one room or are playing in the backyard.

How about having a rendered home office background space that you can use for your virtual meetings? Now, you must be thinking does it matter? But, let me tell you when you are all dressed and have a beautiful home office background, you will create a great impression on your clients and colleagues. Of course, I have this background created just for you, for your Zoom meetings. Click here to save it. If you are wondering as to how to set up the background in Zoom, here is the link on how to change your background in Zoom

Hope this helps! Let me know if you use it and what you think. We’d love your feedback. And keep an eye out for more design tips and our ‘how-to’ series.

Until next time stay safe and keep your family safe.

When my client bought this house, the basement was finished with an 8-foot ceiling. They also had custom built-ins made by previous homeowners. My client loves coastal style and wanted to create a relaxed and energized space for the family, where they can unwind themselves at the end of the day.

Client’s wish list included:

  1. Incorporate Coastal style

  2. Accessorize this space with decor pieces and furnishings

This lovely basement had a great potential for creating a beautiful space but lacked coziness. So we added coastal elements that will create a sense of comfort and coziness. As my clients entertain a lot, we decided on a large sectional, which is perfect for this space to fulfill the purpose. Pillows are great way to freshen up your living or family room. We added pillows with beach theme and colors with a throw to make the room feel cozy and bright.

Recessed lighting and a framed window add to the charm and airy ambiance.

Also to make it feel breezy and light up the space, we recommended sisal rug to brighten up the space as this area had dark laminate flooring. Further we chose a light wood coffee table and a side table. To mimic the beach, we decorated the built-ins with some seaside accessories including seagrass and also beach glass for the ledge. My client had a beautiful painting of the a beach dedicated to Veterans which he really loves and decided to display this beautiful painting.
